Day Trippers....Lincoln, Nebraska

While we were in Nebraska, Billy and I took a day trip to Lincoln. On our way out of town, Billy was the ultimate tour guide, showing me all the places he went to when he grew up. I saw his schools, and the numerous fields he played at while involved in youth sports. The town is charming. Old buildings, small businesses, all lined up on the inside while corn fields dust the outskirts. I've never seen anything like it. I appreciated it's simple beauty.

As we made our way to Lincoln, we talked about everything. From my vantage point, I relived Billy's youth through his memories, his joy and his stories. For me, part of the fun is watching his excitement. He planned to show me the University, get a bite to eat, and then dance at the first place he learned to dance.

We checked out the University, driving around, trying to find something that might be open. Nothing was. Instead, he showed me the building he lived at while attending the University. We took this picture to journal our time.

I asked Billy where he wanted to eat. He used to eat at a little diner off the highway while he studied at night. He wanted to take me there. I was a bit skeptical, but decided to keep an open mind. This day trip was intended to be a trip down memory lane, so I went along for the ride.

As we passed a prison, yes, I said prison - the inmates were all outside, by the way - Billy pointed out the diner a few hundred yards up the road. I was pretty excited to actually be entering a good old fashioned diner. It didn't disappoint. The food was fabulous and cheap! But the atmosphere was something out of "Mel's Diner" and I understood why he wanted to take me here.

After dinner, we went dancing. We were so excited to get out, on our own and dance! Unfortunately, it didn't quite turn out the way we envisioned. Over the last several years, line dancers have been taking over the place. The ratio of line dancers to two-steppers was overwhelming. We did have fun for a while until you just couldn't move around the floor any longer. However, I was still with my man, enjoying the adventures of the day, and nothing could change that.

Life always seems to be an adventure with Billy. We are exploring the world around us. Creating new memories, enjoying the journey and building a life together. Life is most certainly, good!!
